RingCentral shares jumped about 15% in extended trading after the cloud communications company reported third-quarter results above its own guidance, raised its full-year outlook and highlighted rapid adoption of its AI products. The move would take the stock above its previous 52-week high.

What Happened

RingCentral released its third-quarter 2026 results after the market close on October 22. According to the company’s earnings release filed with the SEC, subscriptions revenue rose 6.0% year over year to $653 million and total revenue increased 5.9% to $676 million. Both figures were above the high end of the company’s own guidance range.

Non-GAAP earnings per share came in at $1.33, compared with $1.13 a year earlier and a consensus forecast of $1.28, according to Investing.com. GAAP diluted EPS was $6.50, inflated by a one-time, non-cash release of a tax valuation allowance; excluding that item, GAAP EPS was $0.28, up 47.4% year over year, the company said.

Based on Yahoo Finance data, the stock had closed the regular session at $79.42, down 3.6%. Investing.com reported a rise of about 14.5% to $90.90 in after-hours trading, and Yahoo Finance data showed the shares around $91.46 in early premarket trading on October 23, above the 52-week high of $83.72.

Why the Stock Moved

In our view, the market reaction rests on three elements: a higher outlook, visible traction in AI products and continued balance-sheet improvement.

  • Guidance raised. RingCentral now expects 2026 total revenue of $2.650 billion to $2.657 billion, non-GAAP EPS of $5.07 to $5.12 and free cash flow of $620 million to $630 million, according to the release. For the fourth quarter, it guided to total revenue of $673 million to $680 million and non-GAAP EPS of $1.32 to $1.37.
  • AI adoption. The company said annual recurring revenue from customers using at least one native paid AI product is approaching 15% of the total, roughly double a year earlier. On the call, as summarized by Investing.com, management said its AI Receptionist had more than 22,000 customers, nearly four times a year earlier, and its AI Conversation Expert was approaching 7,000 customers.
  • Deleveraging and buybacks. Gross debt fell to about $1 billion ahead of plan, and the company repurchased about 0.4 million shares for $18 million in the quarter, with roughly $309 million remaining under its authorization.

Business Analysis

RingCentral’s core cloud phone business is mature, and top-line growth in the mid-single digits reflects that. The investment case presented by management is that AI-based voice products can lift revenue per customer and retention. In the release, founder and CEO Vlad Shmunis said that “voice is central to the next wave of AI innovation.” Investing.com reported a monthly net retention rate above 99% and said customers using AI products show higher average revenue per user.

Profitability continues to improve. The non-GAAP operating margin of 24.7% and a record GAAP operating margin of 8.0% point to cost discipline, and free cash flow growth of 21% supports both debt reduction and share repurchases. In our view, the key question is whether AI products can lift overall growth meaningfully above current levels, given that they still represent a minority of recurring revenue.

Technical Picture

Based on Yahoo Finance data as of the October 22 close, RingCentral traded above its 20-day simple moving average of $77.93, its 50-day average of $73.54 and its 200-day average of $47.65, with a 14-day RSI near 55. The stock had already risen about 188% year to date and 64% over three months before the results. An opening near the after-hours level would place the shares in a new 52-week range. Technical indicators describe past price behavior only and do not predict future moves.

Key Risks

  • Growth: revenue growth of about 6% leaves the company dependent on new products to accelerate.
  • Early-stage AI monetization: AI products remain a minority share of recurring revenue.
  • Competition: cloud communications, contact center and AI customer-service markets are crowded.
  • Enterprise budgets: macroeconomic pressure could weigh on software spending, as noted in Investing.com’s summary of risks.
  • Volatility after a large rally: the stock’s strong year-to-date gain may increase sensitivity to news.

What Investors Will Watch Next

  • Delivery of fourth-quarter guidance and the first outlook for 2027.
  • Growth in AI product customers and their share of recurring revenue.
  • The pace of share repurchases now that the debt target has been reached.
  • Trends in net retention and enterprise demand.

Conclusion

RingCentral’s third quarter combined modest growth with clear progress on margins, cash flow and debt, alongside early but measurable AI adoption. The after-hours jump suggests investors are giving more weight to that AI narrative. Whether it can translate into faster revenue growth over the coming quarters remains to be seen, and outcomes may differ from management’s current outlook.
