October 28, 2026 | TickerRoast Markets Analysis
Vertiv, the company that sells the power and cooling gear inside AI data centers, reported a 61% jump in third-quarter sales and said organic orders more than doubled. It also added $650 million to its full-year sales forecast. On a day when most of the market was waiting for the Fed and for Microsoft and Alphabet, Vertiv was one of the clearest movers on the board.
A Quarter That Cleared a High Bar
According to the earnings release Vertiv filed with the SEC on October 28, net sales for the quarter ended September 30 reached $4,313 million, up $1,637 million, or 61%, from a year earlier. Organic growth accounted for 55 points of that and acquisitions for about 6. Operating profit rose 90% to $984 million, adjusted operating profit rose 83% to $1,087 million, and the adjusted operating margin widened by 290 basis points to 25.2%. Diluted EPS climbed 91% to $1.95, and adjusted diluted EPS rose 78% to $2.21.
The comparison with Wall Street’s expectations was flattering. According to 24/7 Wall St., which cited FactSet, the consensus for sales was $3.76 billion, so the reported figure came in more than half a billion dollars ahead. I would treat the orders line as the more important one, though. The company says organic orders grew by more than 100% from a year earlier. It does not give a dollar figure for orders or backlog in the release, so I cannot size that number precisely, but in a business where today’s orders are next year’s revenue, it is the reason the guidance moved.
| Metric | Q3 2026 | Change vs Q3 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Net sales | $4,313M | +61% (55% organic) |
| Adjusted operating profit | $1,087M | +83% |
| Adjusted operating margin | 25.2% | +290 bp |
| Diluted EPS | $1.95 | +91% |
| Adjusted diluted EPS | $2.21 | +78% |
| Adjusted free cash flow | $652M | +50% |
The Americas Carry the Build-Out
The regional table shows where the AI spending is landing. Sales in the Americas rose 74.5% to $2,989 million, with organic growth of 66.2%. Asia-Pacific grew 49.9% to $779 million, and EMEA, the laggard of the past two years, rose 22.8% to $545 million. Over nine months, EMEA sales are still only 2% higher than a year ago and down 3.3% on an organic basis, so I read the third quarter as the first sign that Europe is joining the cycle rather than proof that it has.
Profitability improved everywhere. Adjusted operating profit in the Americas rose 74.8% to $877 million, but the bigger percentage gains came from the smaller regions, with APAC up 93.3% to $132 million and EMEA up 82.4% to $152 million. Chief Executive Giordano Albertazzi described the moment as “the largest infrastructure buildout” and said it is accelerating. Executive Chairman Dave Cote added that the company operates in an industry where “the more technology changes, the better it is for us.”
What the New Guidance Implies
Vertiv now expects full-year 2026 net sales of $14,450 million to $14,850 million, with organic growth of 37% to 39%, adjusted operating profit of $3,475 million to $3,555 million and adjusted diluted EPS of $7.10 to $7.20. It also expects adjusted free cash flow of $2.6 billion to $2.8 billion. The company says the midpoint of the sales range is $650 million higher than before.
For the fourth quarter, the range is $4,313 million to $4,513 million in sales, organic growth of 49% to 51%, an adjusted operating margin of 25.3% to 26.3% and adjusted diluted EPS of $2.22 to $2.28. The low end of the sales range is exactly the third-quarter figure. In other words, management is guiding to at least a flat quarter sequentially, with the midpoint implying about $100 million of growth. That looks conservative next to an order book that more than doubled, and I suspect that is deliberate: the company is still adding factory capacity, and it keeps full-year capital spending at roughly 4% of revenue.
The balance sheet gives it room. Operating cash flow was $794 million in the quarter, adjusted free cash flow $652 million, and liquidity rose to $6.2 billion with what the company calls a net cash position.
How the Stock Traded
The reaction was immediate. According to StockTitan’s live market coverage, Vertiv was up 16.0% in early premarket trading, held a 13.4% gain at 10:02 a.m. Eastern and widened it to 17.3% at 3:01 p.m., its largest gain of the session on the site’s hourly checks. The stock closed at $243.10, up 16.6% from Tuesday’s $208.56, according to Yahoo Finance data. The same coverage noted that other AI infrastructure names, including SK hynix’s U.S.-listed shares and Amphenol, were also higher.

The six-month chart puts that move in a more sober context. Vertiv traded above $350 in May and spent the following five months in a steady downtrend, slipping below $200 in late October. Wednesday’s gap, on heavy volume, lifts the shares back to their 50-day moving average, and the 14-day RSI has climbed back to the high 50s from oversold territory near 30. One strong report has repaired part of the damage, not all of it.
The Questions I Still Have
Three things keep me cautious about extrapolating. The first is concentration. Vertiv’s growth is tied to a small number of very large data center customers whose capital budgets are set quarter by quarter, and the company’s own risk factors mention the unpredictable placing or cancelling of customer orders and the risk of not realizing sales expected from its backlog. The second is capacity. Doubling orders is only valuable if the company can build and ship the equipment on time, and the fourth-quarter range suggests management is pacing itself. The third is sentiment: the five-month slide on the chart shows how quickly investors can mark down AI infrastructure names, even while the company keeps reporting growth.
Tonight’s reports from Microsoft and Alphabet matter for Vertiv as much as for any software company. Their capital spending plans set the order flow for the whole supply chain behind AI data centers, from memory chips to connectors to the cooling units Vertiv sells. If those plans hold up, the orders figure Vertiv reported this morning will look less like a peak and more like a backlog still being worked through.
