AI server racks are packed with connectors, cables and sensors, and Amphenol is one of the largest suppliers of that hardware. Its third-quarter report showed what that means at the scale of today’s data center build-out: sales up 65%, record orders, a higher dividend and a buyback plan twice the size of the last one.
Record Sales and an Order Book That Keeps Growing
According to the earnings release Amphenol filed with the SEC on October 28, sales for the quarter reached $10,230 million, up from $6,194 million a year earlier. That is a 65% increase in dollars and 37% on an organic basis, which strips out currency and acquisitions. Orders were $12.2 billion, giving a book-to-bill ratio of 1.19 to 1. A ratio above one means the company took in more new business than it shipped, which is the closest thing in this industry to a forward indicator.
Profitability held up despite the pace. GAAP operating margin was 29.5% and adjusted operating margin 29.7%. GAAP diluted EPS rose 61% to $0.79, and adjusted diluted EPS rose 74% to $0.80. Operating cash flow was $2.1 billion and free cash flow $1.6 billion. Chief Executive Adam Norwitt said both sales and adjusted EPS exceeded the high end of the company’s guidance and pointed to “continued exceptional organic growth in the IT datacom market.”
Where the AI Money Shows Up
The segment table shows how lopsided the growth was. Communications Solutions, Amphenol’s largest segment, grew sales to $6,583 million from $3,310 million, an increase of 99%. Acquisitions contributed 48 points of that, but organic growth was still 51%, far above the company average and consistent with the CEO’s comment about IT datacom. The other two segments grew much more slowly: Harsh Environment Solutions rose 35% to $2,042 million, or 29% organically, and Interconnect and Sensor Systems rose 17% to $1,605 million, or 11% organically.
| Segment | Q3 2026 sales | Reported growth | Organic growth |
|---|---|---|---|
| Communications Solutions | $6,583M | +99% | +51% |
| Harsh Environment Solutions | $2,042M | +35% | +29% |
| Interconnect and Sensor Systems | $1,605M | +17% | +11% |
| Total | $10,230M | +65% | +37% |
Communications Solutions now generates almost two-thirds of the company’s revenue. That is a much more concentrated Amphenol than the diversified industrial investors knew a few years ago, and it means the company’s results will track hyperscaler capital spending more closely than before.
The CommScope deal itself is running ahead of plan. Amphenol now expects that business to generate full-year sales of $5.1 billion and to add $0.18 to 2026 adjusted EPS, up from its earlier expectations of $4.6 billion and $0.15.
More Cash for Shareholders and More Deals
The board raised the quarterly dividend by 20% to $0.15 a share from $0.125, payable on January 13, 2027, to holders of record on December 22. It also approved a new three-year, $4 billion share repurchase plan starting January 1, 2027, after the company finishes the remainder of its current $2 billion plan by the end of this year. In the third quarter alone, Amphenol bought back 3.0 million shares for $245 million and paid $308 million in dividends.
The acquisition machine also kept running. Amphenol closed the purchase of Empire Electronics, an automotive interconnect maker expected to generate about $320 million of sales in 2026, and signed agreements for three more: AdvancedPCB, a U.S. printed circuit board maker for defense and industrial markets with expected 2026 sales of about $270 million; Dexgreen, an Irish supplier of fiber optic products for fiber-to-the-home networks, at about $90 million; and the sensor business of Humanetics, at about $70 million. The combined price for the four deals is approximately $1.6 billion, to be funded with cash and debt.
Guidance Implies Another Step Up
For the fourth quarter, Amphenol expects sales of $10.3 billion to $10.5 billion, roughly 60% higher than a year earlier, and adjusted diluted EPS of $0.81 to $0.83. For the full year, it guides to $36.9 billion to $37.1 billion in sales, about 60% growth, and adjusted EPS of $2.82 to $2.84, about 70% growth. The outlook excludes the three pending acquisitions.
Taken with a 1.19 book-to-bill, the fourth-quarter range looks achievable to me rather than stretched. What I would watch is whether the order intake stays above sales into 2027, because Amphenol’s numbers are now leveraged to a handful of very large customers whose spending plans can be revised in a single earnings call.
A Smaller Gain Than the Numbers Might Suggest
The stock reaction was positive but measured. According to StockTitan’s live market coverage, Amphenol was up 6.8% at 8:58 a.m. Eastern after the results, but the gain had narrowed to 3.1% by 3:01 p.m. It closed at $80.98, up 3.5%, according to Yahoo Finance data. On the same day, Vertiv, which sells power and cooling equipment into the same data centers, was up more than 17%.

The relative chart against the S&P 500 shows why a beat alone was not enough. Over the past year Amphenol is ahead of the index, but only modestly, at roughly 18% against 12%, and the path has been far more volatile: the stock was up close to 30% on the year in early October, then gave back most of that gain in the weeks before the report. Wednesday’s move recovers part of the drop rather than breaking new ground. The next signal comes after the close, when Microsoft and Alphabet update investors on their capital spending, which is the demand that ultimately fills Amphenol’s order book.
