October 27, 2026 | TickerRoast Markets Analysis
Good morning. After two losing weeks, Wall Street started this one on the front foot, with technology stocks leading a rebound on the day Anthropic filed for its long-awaited IPO. This morning, futures are catching their breath as the Federal Reserve opens its two-day meeting and a heavy slate of earnings begins before the bell.
A Tech-Led Rebound, With Brazil the Glaring Exception
| Index | Monday close (Oct. 26) | Change |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,676.77 | +0.70% |
| Nasdaq Composite | 26,169.38 | +0.82% |
| Dow Jones Industrial Average | 52,361.58 | +0.28% |
| Brazil’s Bovespa | -13.7% |
U.S. index closes are based on Yahoo Finance data; the Bovespa move comes from the Associated Press, via BNN Bloomberg. The S&P 500 ended within 1.8% of the record it set earlier this month, the AP said. Nvidia rose 2.4%, while AI stocks swung sharply through the session on worries about the cost of borrowing to build data centers. Meta slipped 1.9% after outlining plans to raise $35 billion by selling stock to fund its AI spending.
What I found striking is the contrast with Brazil. The Bovespa fell 13.7% after Lula’s surprise reelection, according to the AP, and the iShares MSCI Brazil ETF (EWZ) closed down 19.8% at $34.15, based on Yahoo Finance data. Monday’s regular session confirmed the overnight move rather than reversing it.
Oil Steady, Yields Just Below 5%
Brent crude settled at $110.74 a barrel on Monday, down 0.9%, near the high end of its range since the war with Iran began, the AP reported. The 10-year Treasury yield eased to 4.98%, while the 2-year rose slightly to 4.71%. In Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained about 1.7%, based on Yahoo Finance data.

Early on Tuesday in Europe, S&P 500 futures were down about 0.1% and Nasdaq-100 futures about 0.4%, while Dow futures were flat, based on Yahoo Finance data. On the chart, Monday’s gain lifted the S&P 500 back toward its 50-day moving average, near 7,697, though it remains below its 20-day average around 7,727. The index is in a holding pattern ahead of the week’s two big tests.
Today’s Calendar
Coca-Cola, Boeing and UPS report before the open, with Visa and PayPal after the close, according to the Stockti earnings calendar. I’ll be reading UPS for what it says about shipping volumes and the consumer, and Visa for spending trends at a time when energy prices are squeezing household budgets. Elsewhere, EQT’s agreed all-stock takeover of Range Resources, announced Monday, is one of the largest energy deals of the year; I look at it in detail in today’s Markets section.
The Fed Opens Its Meeting
The Federal Reserve begins its two-day meeting today and is widely expected to leave rates unchanged on Wednesday, after raising them last month for the first time in three years, the AP noted. The central banks of Europe and Japan also meet later this week. For me, Wednesday afternoon will be about two things in quick succession: the tone of the Fed’s statement on inflation, then Microsoft’s and Alphabet’s spending plans a few hours later.
