Bloom Energy Stock Falls Despite a Record Quarter: Revenue Up 138% and Guidance Raised Again

Bloom Energy beat Q3 2026 estimates and raised its outlook for a third time, yet the stock fell 8.7% and slipped further after hours. Here is why.

October 23, 2026 | TickerRoast Markets Analysis

Bloom Energy delivered the strongest quarter in its history, with revenue more than doubling and full-year guidance raised for the third time in 2026. The stock nonetheless fell sharply on October 22 and extended its losses after the report, as investors weighed cash generation, capital needs and a demanding valuation after a large rally.

What Happened

Bloom Energy reported its third-quarter 2026 results on October 22. According to the company’s earnings release filed with the SEC, revenue reached a record $1,235.8 million, up 138.1% from $519.0 million a year earlier. Product revenue rose 179.4% to $1,073.6 million, the first quarter above $1 billion.

The results came in well ahead of expectations. According to Investing.com, non-GAAP earnings per share of $0.94 compared with a consensus forecast of $0.69, and revenue of $1.24 billion compared with an estimate of $1.06 billion.

The share price did not follow. Based on Yahoo Finance data, Bloom closed the regular session at $217.77, down 8.7% from $238.53, on volume about 1.7 times its 20-day average. Investing.com reported a further decline of about 5.2% to $206.49 in after-hours trading, and the stock was indicated around $212 in early premarket trading on October 23, according to Yahoo Finance data.

The company also raised its 2026 outlook. It now expects revenue of $4.4 billion to $4.6 billion, about 122% growth at the midpoint, a non-GAAP gross margin of about 34%, non-GAAP operating income of $960 million to $1,030 million and non-GAAP EPS of $3.10 to $3.40, according to the release. Investing.com noted this was the third guidance increase this year.

Why the Stock Fell

In our view, the reaction says more about positioning and expectations than about the quarter itself. Several factors appear to have weighed on the shares.

  • Elevated expectations. Bloom had closed sharply higher on October 21 after technology leaders described power supply as a major constraint for AI data centers, according to Yahoo Finance. Based on Yahoo Finance data, the stock was still up about 121% year to date after the decline.
  • A difficult day for AI-linked stocks. The selloff came during a broad decline in technology and semiconductor shares. Yahoo Finance reported that FuelCell Energy fell about 6% and Plug Power about 3% on the same day.
  • Cash flow. Operating cash flow was negative $27.1 million in the quarter, according to the release. Investing.com reported quarterly free cash flow of negative $181 million, although free cash flow remained positive at $42 million year to date.
  • Capital and working-capital needs. Investing.com highlighted rising inventory, contract assets and receivables, as well as $153 million of capital expenditures in the quarter as the company expands production.
  • Valuation. Investing.com cited a price-to-earnings ratio of about 240 and a beta of 3.78, which leaves the shares sensitive to any change in sentiment.

Business Analysis

Bloom’s growth is increasingly tied to demand for on-site power at data centers. In the release, CEO KR Sridhar said the business “began with hyperscalers” and is spreading to other market segments. On the earnings call, as summarized by Investing.com, management cited customers and projects including Oracle in Utah, a 300-megawatt project for Nebius in New Jersey and a 700-megawatt carbon-capture project by AEP for Google, and said the company is approaching 5 gigawatts of annual manufacturing capacity.

Profitability improved materially. GAAP net income attributable to common stockholders was $250.3 million, compared with a loss of $23.1 million a year earlier, and the GAAP operating income of $225.4 million marked a sharp increase. The main open question, in our view, is the conversion of this growth into consistent free cash flow while the company builds capacity ahead of demand. Management said the business is self-funding, and the balance sheet held about $2.5 billion of cash at quarter end.

Technical Picture

Based on Yahoo Finance data as of the October 22 close, Bloom traded below its 20-day simple moving average of $262.07 and its 50-day average of $249.16, and just under its 200-day average of $218.86. The 14-day relative strength index (RSI) stood near 38.5, and the stock was about 21% lower over one month. The 52-week range spans $75.70 to $351.28, a reminder of the stock’s high volatility. Technical indicators describe past price behavior and do not predict future moves.

Key Risks

  • Execution: scaling production quickly while protecting margins, with management citing near-term pressure from new lines and expedited deliveries.
  • Customer concentration: a significant part of growth depends on spending by large data-center operators.
  • Cash conversion: working-capital needs and capital spending could keep free cash flow volatile from quarter to quarter.
  • Sector sentiment: AI-related power stocks have moved together, which can amplify swings unrelated to company results.
  • Valuation: elevated multiples leave limited room for disappointment.

What Investors Will Watch Next

  • Fourth-quarter delivery of the raised 2026 guidance.
  • Free cash flow trends as capacity expansion continues.
  • New data-center and utility agreements, and the progress of announced projects.
  • Gross margin as new production lines ramp up.

Conclusion

Bloom Energy’s third quarter showed a business growing at an exceptional pace, with record revenue, much stronger profitability and a higher outlook. The share-price reaction indicates that much of this momentum was already reflected in the valuation after a strong run, and that investors are now focusing on cash generation and execution. Results in the coming quarters will help show whether growth can translate into sustained free cash flow; that outcome remains uncertain.
