October 26, 2026 | TickerRoast Markets Analysis
The companies that rent out AI computing power had already lived through a terrible October. On Sunday, Elon Musk added a blunt prediction to their troubles, and their shares slipped again in overnight trading. I think his comment matters less for what it says about any single company than for what it says about who can still borrow money to build AI capacity.
Musk’s ‘Guppy-Level’ Warning
In a post on X, Musk wrote that “200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation,” adding that some would make it through, “but not many,” according to Stocktwits, via TradingView. He also wrote that “SpaceX is not buying any neoclouds. Pointless,” and said debt markets had almost entirely shut off for companies without substantial revenue beyond AI data centers, while noting that SpaceX had raised $40 billion of debt to buy GPUs.
Neoclouds are companies that buy large numbers of Nvidia graphics processors and rent that computing capacity to AI developers. Their model depends heavily on borrowing: the GPUs are bought up front, often with debt, and paid back over time through rental contracts. That is precisely why a comment about access to credit hits them harder than a comment about demand would.
Another Leg Lower for an Already Battered Group
| Company | Overnight move (Sunday) | Past week | Friday close (Yahoo Finance) |
|---|---|---|---|
| CoreWeave (CRWV) | -2.3% | -11.6% | $54.24 |
| Nebius (NBIS) | -2.3% | -4.0% | $158.74 |
| IREN | -2.0% | -7.7% | $24.91 |
Overnight and weekly moves as reported by Stocktwits. For CoreWeave, it was a third consecutive weekly decline. The pressure had built through the month: on October 22, CoreWeave fell about 10%, Nebius 7.2% and IREN 8.4% as investors reassessed the cost of financing AI infrastructure, according to TokenPost. Venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya has described neoclouds as “disorganized and poorly capitalized” and expects data-center delays and consolidation in 2027, Stocktwits reported.
CoreWeave’s Chart Shows How Far the Repricing Has Gone

Based on Yahoo Finance data, CoreWeave closed Friday at $54.24, down about 40% in one month and about 56% over a year, and just above its 52-week low of $53.50 set during the October 22 session. The stock trades far below its 20-day, 50-day and 200-day moving averages, near $76, $83 and $92, and its 14-day RSI of about 26 is in territory often described as oversold. Oversold readings show how one-sided selling has been; they do not by themselves signal that it is over.

Against the S&P 500, which gained about 13% over the past year, CoreWeave’s underperformance is stark. For me, this is the clearest illustration of how the market is now separating AI winners funded by their own cash flow from AI builders funded by debt.
Why Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon Matter This Week
The neoclouds’ biggest customers and competitors report this week: Alphabet and Microsoft on Wednesday, Amazon on Thursday. Their capital spending plans, expected to total around $800 billion across hyperscalers this year according to Reuters, via Kitco, will show whether demand for outside computing capacity remains strong. Signs that large cloud providers are still renting capacity from neoclouds would support their revenue outlook. Signs that they are bringing more capacity in-house, or slowing spending, would add to the funding pressure Musk described. Either way, I expect these results to move the neocloud stocks more than any single post on X.
