Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) closed up 9.05% at $214.01 on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2026, from $196.25 the day before, according to Yahoo Finance price data. According to The Motley Fool, the shares were up more than 12% in the morning before giving back part of the gain. Data as of the Nov 3, 2026 close.

Two Catalysts Landed on the Same Morning

There was no earnings report behind this one. Bloom reported its third quarter on Oct. 22. Instead, two pieces of news arrived together. The first was a rating change: according to 24/7 Wall St., Barclays analyst Christine Cho moved the stock to Overweight from Equal Weight, while trimming her price target to $289 from $316. That price target is Barclays’ view, not mine, and I note that it came down even as the rating went up.

The second was a deal headline. According to the same report, Bloom signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on Nov. 2 with California Resources (NYSE: CRC) and its Carbon TerraVault unit. The Motley Fool describes the agreement as one that “seeks to evaluate the possibility” of Bloom supplying at least 1 gigawatt of solid-oxide fuel cell power, paired with carbon capture and storage. 24/7 Wall St. says the projects would sit in Central and Northern California and could serve utilities, data centers and industrial users.

Why the Upgrade Carried Weight

According to 24/7 Wall St., Cho’s case leans on the order book. The article says customer deposits jumped to $661 million in the third quarter from $78 million at the end of 2025, and cites $5.8 billion of long-term supply commitments running through 2029. It also reports her caveat: funding inventory and capacity ahead of revenue could keep 2027 free cash flow below Street expectations. In other words, the upgrade is a demand call, not a cash flow call, and the bank said as much.

For a stock like Bloom, that distinction is the whole debate. The company’s fuel cells have become a way for data center developers to get power on site without waiting years for a grid connection, and that story has driven enormous swings in the shares. According to Yahoo Finance, the stock’s 52-week range runs from $75.70 to $351.28.

Reading the MOU Carefully

I would not treat the California Resources agreement as booked revenue. 24/7 Wall St. notes the MOU is non-binding and subject to definitive contracts, investment decisions and permits. A 1-gigawatt figure is large for Bloom, but it is a ceiling for an evaluation, not a purchase order. What the market seemed to like is the use case: CRC says the projects could make up to 3 million metric tons of carbon dioxide per year available for capture, according to the same report, which would pair Bloom’s power with a carbon storage business rather than with a single hyperscaler.

Context: A Relief Rally After a Rough Month

The move also came off a low base. According to The Motley Fool, the stock had fallen about 25% over the prior month as sentiment around data center spending soured, and Yahoo Finance data show it lost 8.61% on Oct. 30 alone. The broader tape gave little cover either way. According to Yahoo Finance index data, the S&P 500 rose 0.36% to 7,568.92 on Election Day, the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.83% as chip stocks rebounded, and the Dow slipped 0.38%, weighed down by Apple, as StockTitan’s session wrap also noted. 24/7 Wall St. reported that peers moved in sympathy early in the session, with FuelCell Energy up about 5% and GE Vernova up about 3%, although neither company was part of Tuesday’s news.

What I’ll Be Watching

Three things. First, whether the CRC evaluation turns into a definitive contract, and on what timeline. Second, whether the customer deposits Barclays highlighted convert into shipments and revenue, which is the gap the bank itself flagged for 2027 cash flow. Third, whether the broader data center power trade stabilizes; Bloom has tended to move with that trade far more than with its own news, and Tuesday’s gain recovered only part of the October decline.
